ANGOLA : PLAYERS TO WATCH
Team captain and forward Fabrice Akwa, who had scored
more goals (31) and played in in more internationals
(68) than any Angolan through the beginning of 2006,
scored several key qualifying goals, including the game-winner
vs. Nigeria and the lone goal -- a header -- in the
1-0 win over Rwanda that clinched a spot in Germany.
Benfica striker Pedro Mantorras is just coming back
from a knee injury. But he can be an impact player if
healthy. Midfielder Figueiredo (many Angolan players
go by just one name), the team's best free-kick artist,
has but 16 international appearances as a 31-year-old,
but could emerge as a key performer with his leadership
ability and work rate.
