HABERDASHER UNITED
When a writer/editor turns to fantasy
OK, so I decided to join an MLS fantasy league for the first time in years.
I was in a league a number of years ago, but I lost interest early on (I believe something called life got in the way; it happens) and forgot where I wound up.

FANTASY SOCCER – MLSFC
Building your team
This year, there are three MLS fantasy games, up from two last year, each with different rules. The rules for Major League Soccer’s official fantasy game, MLS Fantasy Challenge (find it at www.FoxSoccer.com ) have changed. For the better, I might add. It looks pretty good.

Building your MFLS team - forwards
Luciano Emilio should be at it again for the Black & Red. Although he is in DP salary territory here in MFLS, I think he’s well worth it. He showed it last year and has more around him in terms of support.

FANTASY SOCCER 101
Building your MFLS team - midfielders
Most of the higher rated MFLS stats leaders are returning to the same team, except the top-ranked midfielder, Christian Gomez. Yes, Gomez is a fantastic player; however, he goes from DC United to a Colorado club that has absolutely nothing up front. Maybe Conor Casey can do something and stay healthy to give Gomez an option, but I don’t know. Gomez will have a lot to do on his own this year.

Building your MFLS team - defenders
Two team defenses really excelled according to last year’s MFLS stats, Houston and Chivas USA. DC might be one of league’s top defenses this year, but it depends on how the new guys pan out. San Jose and New England have solid groups as well.

Building your MFLS team - goalkeepers
Goalkeepers are the top points earners in MFLS. So picking this position in this particular league is extremely important.

Building your MFLS team
Now that you’ve got a handle on the basics of Fantasy Soccer, it’s time to get down to the business of selecting your team. Here, for starters, is a handbook on whom to take in the MFLS this year.

FANTASY SOCCER
So you want to own your own team?
So you want to own your very own soccer team. Well, you have a few options. You can come up with a few thousand dollars to purchase a minor league team, or millions if you want to play with the big boys and buy an MLS team, or you can own one for free by playing fantasy soccer. I have done two of the three above and so I think I might know a thing or two about this whole fantasy soccer obsession.
