Eight to be inducted into SJ Soccer Hall

Eight individuals will be inducted into the South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 26. The ceremony will be held at Masso’s Catering in Glassboro, NJ with the festivities set to begin at 5:00 pm ET. The induction class will include Philadelphia KiXX forward Anthony Maher, former Ocean City High School star Chad Severs who is now with the Harrisburg City Islanders, Brad Young (Glassboro High School), Alicia Turner (Willingboro High School), former Cherry Hill West High School coach Ira Kosloff, Ocean City High School coach Mike Pellegrino, former Overbrook Regional Senior High School and Gloucseter County College standout Scott Blackley, and soccer booster Bill Siteman.

The South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 1988 and a member can be an official, player, coach, or contributor. The selection criteria as a player include a minimum of two-years of varsity level in South Jersey, a member of League’s all-star team, and positive representation of the game. Other factors considered are captain recognition, awards, college involvement and successes, and club soccer participation. Scott Blackley
Scott Blackley started playing soccer as a goalie at the age of twelve. He has played for several club teams throughout the South Jersey area.

In high school, Scott was a member of the 1978 State Soccer Champs at Overbrook Regional Senior High School in Pine Hill. While at Overbrook, Scott earned All Conference, All Group III, All South Jersey and All State awards.

Scott attended Gloucester County College, and in 1981 he was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All American Team. After graduating from Gloucester County College, Scott attended The University of Alabama in Huntsville on a full athletic scholarship. While at UAH, Scott was named team captain and gained berths to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

Currently, Scott resides in Sicklerville with his wife Beth, daughter Julia and sons Alexander and Joshua.

Ira Kosloff
Ira Kosloff led the Cherry Hill West High School Lions to a 140—34—12 record during his tenure as Head Coach. During the 1980’s, West was one of the strongest, well motivated and focused squads in the area. The team, under Kosloff’s leadership won the Olympic Conference Championships in 1982, 1986 and 1989. West was ranked Number 1 in South Jersey during the 1986 season. They capped the 86’ season by winning the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association Tournament.

Kosloff also had the opportunity to coach youth soccer. He worked at different times with the Medford Strikers and the Cherry Hill Soccer Club. Along with one of his former players and Assistant Coach, George Rhea, he founded and developed a successful soccer school: The Cherry Hill Soccer Camp.

Kosloff has served as Athletic Director at Cherry Hill West since 1990. He has taught in Cherry Hill since 1969. Starting in 1975 he has served as Chairperson of either the East or West Department of Health and Physical Education. As Athletic Director/ Assistant Principal he has chaired a variety of committees for the Olympic Conference He was selected as Athletic Director of the Year by the Olympic Conference in 2006.

Kosloff has been previously inducted into the South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame (1995) and the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2002).

Anthony Maher
Anthony Maher is currently entering his 8th season as a professional soccer player and second year with the Philadelphia KiXX of the National Indoor Soccer League (NISL). He recently scored his 100th career professional indoor soccer goal and was a top goal scorer for the 2008-2009 Philadelphia KiXX. Anthony is also a “pool” member of the United States National Futsal Team.

Anthony played high school soccer at Middle Township and currently sits #2 All Time in every scoring category. Anthony graduated from Division II powerhouse Mercyhurst College where he was a 4 time All Conference selection and 2 time Great Lakes Conference Player of the Year, Mercyhurst’s All Time Scoring Leader, and a Division II NSCAA First Team All-American.

Anthony also set franchise scoring records with the West Michigan Edge of the PDL on his way to an All-League selection.

Out of College, Anthony went on to be a Team MVP and All League First Team with the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL-2. He then was named Team Rookie of the Year and All League Rookie Team with the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Maher continued to play both indoor and outdoor soccer year round. With the Syracuse Salty Dogs of the USL-1, Maher was named Team Offensive Player of the Year and Army Man of the Year. Anthony played indoor soccer with the Kansas City Comets and was named Comets Newcomer of the Year and League All-Star. Anthony began his first summer of soccer camps, Maher Brothers Soccer, in Cape May County in 2008.

Michael Pellegrino
In 1997, Michael Pellegrino became head coach at Ocean City High School. His 12 year record is 228-35-19, including ten appearances in the NJSIAA State Group III South Jersey Title Game. Under Coach Pellegrino, Ocean City won 3 straight NJSIAA State Group III South Jersey Championships from 1999 through 2001, another 3 straight NJSIAA State Group III South Jersey Championships from 2003 through 2005, and again in 2007. Pellegrino’s Red Raiders have won two NJSIAA State Group III Co-Championships in 1999 and 2000 and two outright NJSIAA State Group III Championships in 2003 and 2005, and was a runner up in 2007. His team has qualified 11 straight years for the SJSCA Tournament winning the Cup in 2005 and 2007.

Coach Pellegrino’s Teams have won nine American Conference Championships and seven overall Cape Atlantic League Championships. Michael Pellegrino has been recognized by the SJSCA as Coach of the Year in both 2005 and 2007, and he was also recognized as the New Jersey Coach of the Year for Boys Soccer in 2006 by the NJSCA. In 2005, Coach Pellegrino’s Red Raiders received a National ranking by the NSCAA as a top 20 team in the nation.

Chad Severs
Chad Severs enjoyed great success at Ocean City High School from 1997-2001. Chad helped guide the Red Raiders to two Group 3 state championships (1999, 2000), two Group 3 SJ Championships (1999, 2000), and three Cape-Atlantic League titles (1998, 1999, 2000). He is South Jersey’s all-time scoring leader and 2nd on New Jersey’s list with 159 career goals. While at Ocean City, he received numerous All-State, All-South Jersey, All-Cape-Atlantic League, and “Player of the Year” accolades.

After graduating from high school, Severs moved onto Penn State University receiving a full athletic scholarship from 2001-2004. He led the Nittany Lions’ in scoring for three straight years amassing 38 career goals. This places him sixth in the Big Ten record books and ninth in Penn State history. Some of his Nittany Lion honors include; Big Ten Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten Conference selections, 2002 Big Ten Championship, NCAA “elite 8” “sweet sixteen” appearances, nods on the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams, and honorable mention and preseason All-American selections.

Currently, Chad is a fifth year professional soccer player with 26 career goals to his resume. He has spent 3 years with the Rochester Rhinos (USL-1) and 2 years with the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2) where he is the franchise’s all-time leading goal scorer. He has also had a brief stint with Otago United in the New Zealand Football Championship. Since graduating from Penn State Chad has spent some time in the collegiate coaching ranks as a former men’s assistant coach at Lebanon Valley College.

Bill Siteman
Bill Siteman was introduced to soccer while residing at St. Joseph’s Home for boys in North Philadelphia, in 1966. Many of the home’s players also made up half of the Roman Catholic High School varsity, and were Bill’s friends. Bill was unable to play varsity sports; because, he had to have a job; but, he did manage to attend some Roman soccer games and he learned to love the game. Bill graduated from Roman in 1968.

Bill moved to the Ocean City area in 1969. In 1991, Bill got involved with the Ocean City High School Soccer Booster Club, and learned that there were no soccer records at Ocean City; or, throughout the Cape Atlantic League. To remedy this, Bill visited libraries throughout South Jersey through the years, copying all things Cape Atlantic League soccer. Presently Bill maintains files on each and every past and present Cape Atlantic League varsity program; girls as well as boys.

Alicia Turner
A 1993 graduate of Willingboro High School, Alicia Turner was a four year varsity starter and team captain her junior and senior year. She was an integral part of the championship win over Shawnee that had the Chimeras win their first ever South Jersey Group IV title. During her career she had a number of assists and scored an impressive 75 goals. She won first team All County honors in 1990, 91 and 92. Alicia also made All-South Jersey in 1990, 91’, and 92’. During her senior year she was named South Jersey Midfielder of the year and was named one of the top 17 players in the state. In addition she made first team All State as a junior and senior. In 1992, Alicia became the first female All American Soccer Player from Willingboro High School and she also had a very successful club soccer career. Her team the Willingboro Strikers won five state titles, three regional championships and one national title.

After high school Alicia attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick where she continued her soccer career, helping her team make the Big East Tournament. She continued her career after college playing in the UWISL for the New Jersey Wildcats and then for the South Jersey Banshees.

After playing she became an assistant coach at Philadelphia University and then became the head coach for the boys program at Willingboro High School. While at Willingboro she led the boy’s team to their best record and most wins in ten years with a 6-12 record.

Alicia is now an assistant principal at Memorial Upper Elementary School and has a ten year old daughter named Nyree.


Brad Young
Brad played youth soccer in the Glassboro Park and Recreation program from its inaugural season. He was a member of the Glassboro High School Soccer program from 1979 – 1982. In 1981 and 1982 he was captain of the GHS soccer team and earned most valuable player honors. He also was an all South Jersey Group I, Gloucester County and Olympic Conference 1st team selection.

From 1983 – 1986 Brad played for Ursinus College where he was a member of the 1983 ECAC champions and he captained the team in 1986.

Following his college career, Brad continued to participate in numerous soccer activities, in South Jersey, South Carolina, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, as a club player and youth coach. Brad currently resides in Export, Pa. with his wife Lesli and three children Patty, Jessica and James.

Brad continues youth coaching today in the Murrysville Area Soccer Program.
