STILL ALIVE
Win keeps Hawks hopeful for A-10

A berth in the Atlantic 10 tournament is still a possibility for the Saint Joseph’s women’s team as they defeated Saint Louis 2-1 on rainy, windy Finnesy Field Friday evening.

Saint Joseph's improved to 4-4-1 in the Atlantic 10 (7-7-3 overall) and moved into a tie for sixth place in the conference standings with 13 points.

Both of the Hawks’ goals were unassisted. The first came in the 31st minute, when Daniell DeBernardo grabbed a turnover and sent a shot into the upper left side of the net.

Lauren Sawyer staked St. Joe’s to a 2-0 lead in the 71st minute, when after several rebounds, she finally poked a shot into the left side of the net.

The Billikens got on the board in the 86th minute, when Susan Frederickson touched the ball past a defender and Ashle Hayes beat goalkeeper Chritine Neal on a breakaway with a shot to the center of the goal.

Neal made eight saves in the game while Hannah Perry made two for St. Louis (7-7-3, 4-3-2 A-10).
