Penn junior forward Stephen Baker has been selected as the Philly Soccer News Men’s College Player of the Week for the week ending September 23.
Baker racked up five goals and one assist over two games last weekend, including the first four-goal performance by a Quakers player in 35 years.
Baker’s first goal of the weekend, a seventh-minute strike, started the Quakers on their way to a 3-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday.
On Sunday, Baker scored four goals and assisted on another as Penn routed Rider 7-2 at the Princeton Invitational at Roberts Stadium.
Baker set up Duke Lacroix for the game’s opening goal in the 20th minute. Just under six minutes later, Baker got his foot on a long ball sent into the box for his second goal of the season. In the 41st, he snagged the loose ball after goalkeeper Jason Giordano bobbled Lacroix’s through ball and scored to make the score 4-0. He completed his hat trick in the 65th, off a short pass from Lacroix, and rounded out the rout with a 77th-minute strike off a pass from freshman James Rushton.
