Gannon midfielder earns top PSAC honor
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon’s Sean Pike was selected as the 2012 PSAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Year for his contributions to the Golden Knights alongside the Freshman of the Year Jacob Oldaker from Lock Haven. Mercyhurst’s Head Coach Dale White is the PSAC’s Coach of the Year, as he led the Laker’s to their first PSAC title in program history.
Pike, also a first team All-PSAC choice, has scored five goals for the Knights this season and has assisted on six occasions, third in the PSAC. He scored the game winner in the 72nd minute of a 3-1 victory over Davis & Elkins, the same opponent Gannon, the top seed in the Atlantic Region, will meet in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Championship tournament on Sunday, November 11.
Oldaker sits atop the Bald Eagle in goals and points with six marks and 14 points accumulated in his first collegiate season. He ripped 50 shots in 17 matches in 2012, with 30 being on target, ranking him in the top ten within the conference in shots per game.
White is in his third season at the helm of the Mercyhurst men’s program and has guided the Lakers to three straight NCAA appearances, marking the Lakers’ 12th playoff berth since 1995 and the program’s fourth consecutive appearance.
The release of the 2012 All-PSAC rosters marks three athletes’, Matt Kadoch of Millersville, Gannon’s Sean Washek, and Millersville’s Andrew Dukes, third appearance on an All-Conference squad. East Stroudsburg’s Nick Fischer and Gannon’s Robbie Bennett are repeat first team selections.
