MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lafayette’s Nathan McDonald
Lafayette junior goalkeeper Nathan McDonald has been named the Philly Soccer News Men’s College Player of the Week for the week ending November 11.
McDonald was named Patriot League tournament MVP after backstopping the Leopards to shutout wins over Colgate and American on their way to the conference championship. In Friday’s semifinal win over Colgate, McDonald made three saves including a diving stop on Dan Matthews in the final ten minutes.
With Lafayette up 1-0 in the 32nd minute of Sunday’s championship match, American was awarded a penalty kick after Rob Bedson was called for a foul and yellow carded as the Eagles took their only corner of the half. AU's Alassane Kane sent a low shot to the right side where McDonald dove and smothered the attempt, preserving the Leopards' advantage. McDonald finished with two saves for his fourth straight shutout, and has not allowed a goal in more than 466 minutes spanning the Leopards’ last five games.
